What are best practices for using Slack?
Updated over a week ago

The following are Slack best practices to use when communicating with members of the Designity community:

  1. Designity adheres to a "focus time" policy, avoiding the use of Slack from 9:00-1:00 PM ET to encourage uninterrupted work. Please refrain from sending Slack messages during this time, unless it's something too urgent to be delayed.

  2. Please refrain from messaging outside of official working hours. If you find yourself in different time zones than the person you wish to message, the option to pre-schedule messages can be very helpful.

  3. To streamline communication and provide multiple thoughts or feedback in an organized manner, consider numbering your points within a single message. This practice makes communicating and responding to messages clearer and more effective.

  4. If you happen to omit something from a message, Slack offers an editing feature that allows you to revisit and edit your messages instead of having to send additional messages to correct the first.

  5. To respond to a message in a multi-person thread, click directly on that message for your reply. This will send your message to the original sender only, rather than everyone in the thread.

  6. For project work, please use Slack channels instead of using direct messages. This makes it easier for your team members to handle notifications.
